Riley Pond

About the only thing in Riley that’s memorable is the billboard on the way out of town that says “Whoa, Ya Missed Riley!” The tiny town sits on the Bend-Burns highway about 28 miles west of Burns, at the intersection of U.S. 395. Electricity didn’t reach here until 1958.

Just west of town on the north side of the highway is a stock pond that birders often frequent, looking for stray migrants, and a highway marker commemorating the Bannock Indian wars, which had a battle around here somewhere.
